I Kept The $4,200 Quote In My Bag For Three Weeks

I did not tell my husband what it cost. Then I found out what Korean clinics put on the moment the laser stops, and I never booked the course.

The quote I kept folded in the zip pocket.

I kept the quote in my bag for three weeks. Folded in the zip pocket where the receipts go, so it was not on the kitchen counter where someone might pick it up and ask about it.

I did not tell my husband what it cost. That is the part I am least proud of and the part I suspect is the most common.

What I actually went in about

Three summers of sun on my cheekbones, and one summer in particular. A week in Portugal where I was sensible for four days and not sensible on the fifth, and the mark that came up afterwards never quite went again.

For about two years I covered it. Then covering it started taking a step I resented, and I made the appointment on a Tuesday night in the way you do things at eleven at night that you would not do at eleven in the morning.

The number on the website was three hundred. The number I came out with was eight hundred and twenty, and that was session one of six.

Session one of six. I kept it.

Nobody quotes you for one session. They quote you for one and book you for a course, and the course is where the real figure lives. Five or six of them, a month apart, plus a maintenance session after.

At the low end that is around fifteen hundred dollars. At the high end it is north of four thousand.

The thing I found out afterwards

I went looking for what the recovery involved, because I am the sort of person who reads the leaflet. And I kept finding the same ingredient in Korean clinic protocols, applied the moment the laser stops, while the barrier is at its most fragile.

It is called PDRN. On an ingredient list it appears as sodium DNA. It did not come out of cosmetics. It came out of wound care, which is why it is the thing they reach for when skin has just been through something.

It works on the layer underneath, the one a moisturizer has never reached. That layer is where skin renews itself, and it is the reason the expensive jar on my shelf had stopped doing anything years ago.

If the repair step is what the clinic reaches for anyway, what happens if you just use the repair step.

That is the question I could not stop turning over. Not because I think a cream is a laser. It is not. But because a good part of what I wanted was texture and tone, and the laser was the expensive way to find that out.

What I did instead

Two creams, in a fixed order, sixty seconds. PDRN first, pea sized, patted in. The firming cream straight over the top. That is the whole routine and there is nothing to rinse.

The second one is TECA, the concentrated form of centella asiatica, at 30,000ppm. Firmness, lines, tone, on the surface. It only works properly once the first layer has been dealt with, which is the part I had backwards for years.

Both are made by Centellian24, owned by Dongkook Pharmaceutical, who have been working on centella extraction since 1968 and hold four patents on the extraction alone. The cream has sold over 100 million tubes in Korea, a country of 52 million people.

What was in the folded quote

  • Pigment laser, session 1 of 6$680
  • Consultation fee$95
  • Post care cream$45
  • The full course of six$1,500 to $4,200

Both creams, roughly two months a pair$39.99

Eleven weeks, honestly

What happened and when

  1. Week 1Nothing. It is a cream, and I felt slightly silly
  2. Week 3My skin stopped feeling tight after cleansing, which I nearly did not count
  3. Week 6The bad week. I was ready to say it had not worked
  4. Week 8The mark on my cheekbone had gone softer at the edges
  5. Week 11I went out without covering it and did not think about it until the evening

Week six is where I nearly stopped, and I want to say that plainly. Skin moves slowly. Six weeks in I had decided it was another thing that had not worked, and I was wrong by a fortnight.

Not all of it is glowing

Centelian 24 Madeca Cream is excellent for calming irritated or sensitive skin. Its rich, nourishing texture delivers deep hydration while strengthening the skin barrier. With regular use, it helps reduce redness, soothes inflammation, and leaves the skin soft, smooth, and comfortable all day.

I love how gentle and calming this cream is. My skin feels instantly soothed and less irritated after applying.

It is so good for soothing and calming your skin, because it contains Centella Asiatica. Deeply moisturizes and also has anti-aging properties. I RECOMMEND

Is this instead of laser?

For one deep, defined mark, a clinic is genuinely better and I would not pretend otherwise. For texture, tone and more recent sun damage, this is what I use and I did not book the course.

I have already had a session. Can I use it?

PDRN is what Korean clinics apply straight after one, so it sits naturally in that window. If you have had a treatment in the last week, follow what your clinic told you first.

How long before I know?

Thirty days is a fair look and eight weeks is a real one. Judge it on texture and on the marks, not on a mirror in different lighting to the one you started in.

Thirty days, and you keep the creams

The two together are $39.99. Retail for the pair is $66.50, and the gap is there because they import direct rather than through a US distributor.

Use it for thirty days. If nothing has changed, email and you get your money back, and you keep the creams. No form, no return label, nobody asking you to explain yourself. A course of laser does not come with that, and it cannot, because the sessions have already happened.

P.S. The quote is still in the bag. I have not thrown it out and I am not entirely sure why. Possibly because it is the most expensive thing I never bought.
